DarkStar Array

Our radio telescope spectral-line interferometer array consists of radio telescopes operating in the wavelength range of 50 MHz to 22 GHz coupled with back-end receiver systems with spectrometer for continuum and line observations.

Spectral-line interferometry allows multiple wavebands to be imaged from a target source, providing a more comprehensive analysis of an object. It allows velocity information such as kinematics and dynamics, column density which provides detail into the amount of gas an object has, excitation conditions which relate to temperature and density, chemical history which provides detail into an object’s gas composition, magnetic fields, distances, and other physical characteristics to be measured and analysed while also being able to produce a radio image.

This will enable users to observe targets in a highly detailed and comprehensive analysis compared to the other radio telescopes available to a limited selection of schools and which operate at single wavelengths.
